Known Professions of the Mage

I am a lvl 17 Mage, and I almost master both the Leathering and skinning trade, well before i had a clue, that I should be learning tailoring. I want to forget my professions and learn Tailoring and not sure what other profession as of yet, (someone recommend something).. but I am scared to forget everything I know, cause I am not sure if it will effect my training as a mage and my talents as well.. How can I replace my profession without having to give up everything I worked so hard to get?I say, stick with your proffesions. If you are good at leatherworking and skinning then keep working on them. I have a level 12 warlock with those same skills. If you felt like it, you could make another file with tailoring and just have him send over some kick-ass cloth armour.By the way, if you want to ge tailoring then the other proffesion you would want would be enchanting. Neither of them require a gathering skill, so they make a perfect pair.Tailoring/enchanting combo is great for a mage, since you can create and buff your own equipment. However, DON'T expect to make money fast or easily at the lower levels. Without a gathering profession, you will sometimes end up losing money to train your skills. I ended up dropping enchanting for mining, because I couldn't make money. Repairs, training, and equipment combined to keep me below 100 gold until level 58.Good, I thought it was just me who was having trouble with money. The skills I now can purchase require more than a gold now, and that sucks. That will always put pressure on my wallet and I might have problems buying a mount. That is why I made another file just to jewelcraft and make money, kind of like my suggestion to the poster of this thread; to make two files, working with each other.I think if you just want to get rich quick mining and skinning is the way to go.do not go professions to make money (go herbalism or mining for money) if you are a mage learn tailoring when you get to 70 and need some gear you can make your own imba gear. enchanting is nice too but its really expensive to lvl up. so basically what im saying is choose a profession which will help you later on. i am herbalism and tailoring. herbalism can make alot of money in one day. and tailoring gives you some of the best gear you can get before t5. (plus if you want to get spellstrike gear you need to be a tailor to get the set bonus) I am a lvl 17 Mage, and I almost master both the Leathering and skinning trade, well before i had a clue, that I should be learning tailoring.
not too sure you "mastered"these at 17 :)mining and enchanting or enchanting and tailoring is very good for money. As any Clothie (Priest, Mage, Warlock) you definitely want to do tailoring simply for the lvl 70 cloth specialization sets. I have a 70 priest and went Primal Mooncloth spec tailoring because that set is arguably better than t4. So now I am waiting to get my tailoring up with my 56 Mage so I can spec Spellcloth and make that set. For moneymaking, either skinning or mining are great since you just collect then sell on AH and save for your mount (or you could grind BGs on your way to 60 and get a free mount although you still have to pay to train the skill) Hope this helps!Enchanting can make you money if you DE and sell the essences. People are always looking for them in the AH.I went with jewelcrafting. So far it makes good money, epsecially when I can purchase other necessary items from my friends or have my other characters make them such as potions. Jewelcrafting can be used by any character and is great for increasing stats such as intellect, spirit, stamina, spell damage, et cetra. Other professions that would be useful to a mage are alchemy and herbalism or enchanting and tailoring.herbalism and alchemy are great for mage, it may not good for collecting gold but you will real need it to survive if you decided to play as mage, you can heal your self gain more health more damage more armor more crit when gold will not help you much when your mage is some bad situation, this is my advice take it if you like, (
